(b Alicante, Aug 5, 1886; d Madrid, Jan 6, 1976). Spanish composer. In 1902 he began courses on engineering, philosophy and literature at the University of Barcelona. On the advice of the writer Gabriel Miró he switched to studying music, learning sol-fa from his father Don Trino Esplá, piano from Fernando Lloret and harmony from Juan Latorre.
