(b Purley, March 4, 1898; d Purley, Sept 3, 1984). English soprano. She studied at the GSM, winning the gold medal, and with Lisa Lehmann on a Melba Scholarship. Boosey’s Ballad Concerts and her Wigmore Hall début in 1917 led to a long recital and oratorio career with Beecham, the Hallé, the Promenade Concerts, and the Three Choirs and Delius festivals.
