(b Budapest, Aug 28, 1901; d Lakeville, CT, Sept 21, 1991). American musicologist of Hungarian birth. He studied at the Budapest Academy of Music, graduating in 1922. His teachers there were Kodály (composition), Hans Koessler (counterpoint), Leó Weiner (chamber music) and Wieschendorf (bassoon).
