(b Ljubljana, Slovenia, March 21, 1456; d Vienna, Austria, April 26, 1522). Churchman and musician of Slovenian origin. He was a native of Ljubljana (Ger. Laibach, in his time the capital of the Habsburg Carniola) and considered himself a Slovenian. He interpreted his name (etymologically incorrectly) as Slovenian for ‘golden horse’, hence the presence of a horse in his coat of arms and the translation of his name into Greek as ‘Chrysippos’.
