(b Tîrgu-Mureş, March 12, 1935). Romanian composer and musicologist of Hungarian descent. Covering a wide range of genres, his approximately 200 works stand out through their richness and originality of ideas, at the same time illustrating his assimilation of the main stages of the musical avant-garde, from serialism to graphic notation, from the synchretism of the new musical theatre to stylistic allusions to the past and to contemporary religious music. His musicological writings, focusing on the principles and techniques of modern harmony, have created a veritable school of analysis for Romanian and international musicians....
