(b Ghent, Jan 27, 1784; d Ghent, July 4, 1851). Belgian composer and horn player. He studied the horn with his father, and by the age of 13 was playing at the theatre in Ghent. He entered the Paris Conservatoire in 1804 and after playing the horn in the orchestra at the Odéon he became principal horn at the Opéra-Comique and remained there for 13 years.
