(b Belgrade, Dec 31, 1919; d Belgrade, March 14, 1999). Serbian composer of Czech descent. Born into a prominent musical family (her father Jovan [Jan] Frajt founded the Edition Frajt publishing house in Belgrade), she studied composition at the Belgrade Music Academy with Miloje Milojević and Josip Slavenski, who cultivated her interest in Serbian and Yugoslav folklore. Her oeuvre comprises orchestral, chamber, and choral music, electro-acoustic works, etc. She wrote music for films and radio dramas and held high positions at the Avala Film production company and the Belgrade radio and television stations. Her musical style is generally lyrical and intimate, displaying a particular sensitivity towards timbre; however, she successfully assimilated many techniques of the Western avant-garde, including aleatorics, ...
