(b Čakovice, July 14, 1891; d Prague, June 7, 1973). Czech composer and pianist. She studied the piano at the Prague Conservatory with Josef Jiránek, graduating in 1913. After some years as a solo pianist and piano teacher, she studied composition with the expressionist composer Vítĕzslav Novák and became receptive to the new ideas of the time about expanded tonality and atonality. Her output, though small, is notable for its spontaneity and strict musical logic. She gave up composing under the Communist regime.
