(b Prague, Oct 9, 1888; d Prague, Feb 25, 1938). Czech composer. She studied composition in Prague with Josef Bohuslav Foerster (1919–21), in Berne with Ernst Hohlfeld, and in Paris with Albert Roussel (1924–9) and with Nadia Boulanger at the Ecole Normale. Her works, which blend neo-romanticism and impressionism, were frequently given during her lifetime by eminent performers. As the wife of a Czech diplomat and musicologist, she played some part in spreading a knowledge of modern Czech music outside her own country....
