(b Horažd‘ovice, March 22, 1852; d Pišek, Jan 18, 1934). Czech violinist and violin pedagogue. Starting singing lessons with his father at the age of six, Ševčík immediately passed to the piano and a little later to the violin, making rapid progress. At the age of ten, he made his first public appearance as a violinist, while at the age of 14 he decided to take the entrance exams at the Prague Conservatory. Although not studying particularly hard in the beginning Ševčík reorganised his habits and increased the time he spent studying, often to unreasonable extremes....
