(b Heraklion, March 18, 1939). Greek composer. During his childhood in the village of Ierapetra, on the east southern coast of Crete, he received several musical influences that were later assimilated in his personal idiom: classical music, Cretan folk music, and the music of the Eastern Mediterranean. He studied theory and violin at the local conservatory and continued his music studies at the Athens Conservatory under the composer Georgios Sklavos.
