His musical talent was noticed by his mother Ioanna, who played the piano, but his father Konstantinos discouraged him from pursuing music studies. In 1967 Sidiropoulos gained admission to the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, school of mathematics, which he quit three years later to focus on music.
