City in the northwestern part of the Republic of Macedonia, known during the Medieval period as Htetovo, and during the Ottoman Empire as Kalkandele. Different ethnic groups inhabited Tetovo throughout the centuries (Albanians, Macedonians, Turks, Serbs, Aromanians, Roma, and Bosnians).
