(b Ljubljana, Slovenia, March 22, 1805; d Mennecy nr. Paris, France, Aug 31, 1882). Slovenian pianist and composer. There are no data about his musical education, but he composed his first piano piece in 1821. In 1823 he left for Vienna to study law, but in spite of strong objections by his father and the resulting withdrawal of financial support he devoted himself exclusively to music. Although there is no evidence to support the claim, he maintained that he had contact with Beethoven and Schubert.
