(b Yabucoa, PR, March 31, 1939). Puerto Rican composer and guitarist. He studied guitar under Moisés Rodríguez and later received the B.A. from the University of Puerto Rico and the B.M. from the Puerto Rico Conservatory of Music. In 1970, he earned a master’s degree in composition from Indiana University. He studied composition with Héctor Tosar, Roque Cordero, Juan Orrego Salas, Bernard Hayden, Iannis Xenakis, and John Eaton. He teaches guitar and composition at the University of Puerto Rico at Río Piedras. His teaching also includes the production of radio and television programs.
