A catchall category that includes mariachi, ranchera, norteño, banda, duranguense, and other music with roots in rural Mexico. The Recording Industry Association of America also includes Tejano music within this category. Many U.S. radio stations abandoned Spanish-language pop or música romántica formats and switched to Regional Mexican Music in the 1990s.
