American choral ensemble. Formed in 1955, the sixteen member Singers quickly became known for its dedication to the performance of the American music, ranging from 18th-century choral works to contemporary works of the 20th and 21st centuries. Gregg Smith, a composer and conductor, has directed the group since its beginning. He studied music at UCLA, working with composers Leonard Stein and Lukas Foss.
