British male vocal ensemble. Founded in 1974, the Hilliard Ensemble is best-known for their early music recordings. The ensemble’s commissions, recordings, and programs of contemporary vocal music are as numerous as their early music output, however, and the group makes efforts to separate the genres in performance and especially on its recordings.
