Also called “inspirational music,” Contemporary Christian Music designates a genre that merges the gospel of Protestant evangelicalism with rock and roll. Evangelicalism refers to a range of Protestant faith groups that emphasize personal salvation, biblical inerrancy, and the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. A distinguishing characteristic of evangelicalism is its tradition of converting others to the faith.
