(b Udine, Italy, Feb 3, 1869; d Ferrara, Italy, Sept 2, 1940). Italian impresario. As a young man, Gatti-Casazza originally intended to study the piano, but was discouraged from doing so because of his small hands. After a brief career with the military, he attended the university in Genoa and moved to Ferrara, where he “discovered his true calling,” the theater.
