(b Pogar, Russia, ?April 9, 1888; d New York, NY, March 5, 1974). American impresario and manager. Hurok left Russia in 1906 and settled in New York, where he progressed from organizing left-wing political events in Brooklyn to presenting prominent musicians (such as violinists Efrem Zimbalist and Mischa Elman) and dancers (such as Anna Pavlova, Isadora Duncan, and Michel Fokine) at Carnegie Hall and the Hippodrome.
