A popular ballroom dance that grew in popularity during the 1950s, derived from a Cuban music and dance style (see cha cha cha ). It is one of the primary competitive ballroom dances in the United States as part of the American Rhythm division, and at the international level as one of the dances in the International Latin program. Danced in 4/4 time to lively traditional Cuban music or contemporary Latin numbers, the ballroom cha-cha relies on compact steps and follows a rhythmic pattern of slow, slow, quick-quick, slow (or step, step, cha cha cha)....
