Founded in 1976, this annual six-day outdoor music festival held on a private site (known as “the land”) in Oceana County, Michigan, is recognized as the world’s foremost Women’s music [womyn’s music] festival. The MWMF formed to promote lesbian-feminist community and music, partly in response to their marginalization by the male-led peace movement, the primarily heterosexual liberal feminist movement, and the sexist mainstream music industry.
