(b Delhi, LA, May 1, 1967). American country recording artist. A contemporary of Garth Brooks, Clint Black, and other “hat acts” of the era, McGraw reached national and international attention as a country musician in the early 1990s. He first met his biological father Tug McGraw, pitcher for the New York Mets and later the Philadelphia Phillies, at age 12. A baseball scholarship enabled McGraw to study at Northeast Louisiana University (now University of Louisiana at Monroe), where he also performed at local clubs.
