(b ?Dresden, Germany, 1703; d Dresden, Germany, Jan 29, 1784). German woodwind and brass instrument maker. He worked at Neustadt, near Dresden (achieving citizenship in Dresden in 1768), and is known to have made oboes, clarinets, trumpets, and trombones. Surviving natural trumpets at Grassi Museum, Leipzig, Germany, and National Museum, Prague, Czech Republic, are of the long form typical of such makers as Johann Gottfried Leutholdt and Johann Werner. A silver trumpet marked with the arms of Saxony is at Cité de la Musique, Musée de la Musique, Paris, France. His oboes and clarinets were simply but carefully made with two to four keys....
