Nose flute of Nias, Indonesia. It is a narrow bamboo tube with four fingerholes, about 36 to 49 cm long and about 1 cm in diameter, open at the bottom and closed at the top by a natural node which is pierced in the centre by a small blow-hole. The player blows against the edge of this hole with his left nostril, closing the right nostril with a piece of leaf or kapok fibre. It is played for personal entertainment. The term ...
