Extract

Clarinet of the Maranao people on Mindanao and Tausug and Sama on Sulu, southern Philippines. It has an idioglot single reed inserted into the reed body, with a pirouette of a rectangular piece of coconut shell between the two. Six fingerholes are burnt into the body, to the end of which a long bell made of coiled bamboo-leaf, often decoratively painted, is added.
