(b Bologna, July 9, 1879; d Rome, April 18, 1936). Italian composer. He studied at the Liceo Musicale, Bologna (1891–1901), where his teachers included Luigi Torchi and Giuseppe Martucci. In 1900–01 and again in 1902–3 he visited Russia, where he had lessons from Rimsky-Korsakov that crucially influenced his orchestration.
