(b Seaham Harbour, Co. Durham, Sept 10, 1944). English baritone. He studied at the RCM (1964–8) and made his début in 1969 as Marchese d’Obigny (La traviata) with the WNO in Haverfordwest. After a summer in the Glyndebourne chorus he rejoined the WNO, where his roles included Rossini’s Figaro, Mozart’s Count Almaviva, Guglielmo and Papageno, Falke, Billy Budd, Posa, Yevgeny Onegin and Germont.
