Though subtitled ‘A Play for Burmese Marionettes’, this work employs a large cast of live singers and dancers. The ‘Nusch-Nuschi’, a fabulous beast, half rat, half cayman, plays only a minor role in the story, which concerns the simultaneous seduction of four of the Emperor’s wives by the handsome Zatwai (silent role).
