He studied with Frank La Forge and made his début in 1942 as Brétigny in Massenet’s Manon at the Metropolitan but left the company in 1945, dissatisfied with its casting policy. He ventured into musical comedy but continued to appear in opera with various companies, including those at Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, New Orleans and San Antonio.
