Originally a schoolmaster in Geneva, Christiné married a café-concert singer and left Switzerland to settle in France where his songs, composed first for his wife and later for such metropolitan stars as Mayol, Dranem and Fragson, put him in the forefront of popular songwriters in France in the years before World War I.
