Comic opera in two acts by Antonín Dvořák to a liretto by Josef Otakar Veselý; Prague, Provisional Theatre, 27 January 1878.

Veselý’s plot resembles that of the Beaumarchais-Da Ponte Le nozze di Figaro. It involves a Prince (baritone) who attempts to seduce a lowly young woman, Bětuška (soprano), who is already in love with a young man, Jeník (tenor). The Princess (soprano) is involved in a plot to expose the philandering of her husband. In Act 2 scene viii, the Princess reveals her identity after having disguised herself as Bětuška during the Prince’s attempted seduction. In the end, the Prince asks for forgiveness and swears fidelity, and a farm is presented to Jeník and Bětuška....
