(b Sydney, April 18, 1946). Australian composer. Recognised as one of Australia’s most distinguished composers, Boyd graduated with a BA Hons (1967) from the University of Sydney, where she studied with Peter Sculthorpe, and a PhD in musical composition from the University of York in England (1972), where her teachers were Wilfrid Mellers and Bernard Rands. She is the recipient of three prestigious awards: a Member of the Order of Australia for her contribution to music as a composer and educator (1996), an Honorary Doctorate from the University of York (2003), and an award for Distinguished Services to Australian Music by the Australian Performing Rights Association in conjunction with the Australian Music Centre (2005). Her music is performed to wide critical acclaim and is published by Faber Music and the University of York Music Press. Her works appear on a number of commercial CD recordings and are regularly broadcast worldwide....
