(b Strasbourg, May 5, 1749; d Paris, July 17, 1794). Alsatian composer. He studied law at Strasbourg University under the patronage of Baron de Dietrich, together with the baron’s son, Philippe-Frédéric Dietrich. In about 1774 Edelmann went to Paris where he became famous as a composer, harpsichordist and teacher.
