German family of composers, organists, copper merchants, instrument makers and writers. They were patricians, qualified for senatorship, who enjoyed great esteem in 16th- and 17th-century Nuremberg. The brewer Hans Haiden (d 1532) settled in Nuremberg shortly after 1500. The first musician in the family was his son (1) Sebald Heyden, who in turn was the father of (2) Hans.
