(b Pinne, nr Posen, Sept 18, 1910; d Aug 25, 2008). Israeli composer. He was one of the founders of Israeli art music. Soon after Tal’s birth his family moved to Berlin where his father, a rabbi, became principal of an orphanage and a lecturer on Semitic philology. Joseph studied at the Staatlische Akademischen Hochschule, with Hindemith and Schoenberg’s student Tiessen (composition), Curt Sachs (history), and Trapp (piano).
