(b Friedrichs-Tanneck, Thuringia, April 13, 1837; d Leipzig, April 21, 1888). German bassoonist and teacher . He was leading bassoonist in the Leipzig Gewandhaus orchestra from 1857 to 1887. From 1882 until his death he was professor at the Leipzig Conservatory, the first teacher of bassoon to be appointed. Though he composed orchestral and choral works, he is remembered for the excellent teaching material, still in print and widely used, that he wrote for the bassoon.
