(b Roman, Romania, July 19, 1954). Romanian composer and conductor. He majored in composition at the Bucharest Conservatory, studying with Ştefan Niculescu, before taking part in composition competitions and festivals in London, Paris, Tallinn, Prague, and Warsaw. He is the founder and leader of the Archaeus Music Workshop, with which he has participated in multiple international musical events. Dănceanu has initiated and organized the Archaeus Festival in Bucharest (since 1998) and Zilele Muzicii Contemporane/Days of Contemporary Music in Bacău (since 1991). Moreover, he has been artistic director of the Săptămâna Internaţională a Muzicii Noi/International Week of New Music in Bucharest (1992–6) and president of the Romanian section of the ISCM (1992–4). Alongside his diligent administrative activity, Dănceanu has also had a noteworthy academic career at the National University of Music Bucharest (where he has taught, since 1990, the history of music, aesthetics, and composition) and has consistently published various studies, essays, reviews, and articles, which have been gathered in a number of volumes, most of them published after ...
