(b Sofia, Aug 4, 1933; d Sofia, June 15, 1993). Bulgarian composer and conductor, son of Pancho Vladigerov. He graduated from the State Music Academy in Sofia having studied composition with Parashkev Hadjiev and conducting with Vladi Simeonov; from 1960 continued his studies with Natan Rakhlin, the chief conductor of the Kiev PO. By then his conducting career had already begun with orchestras in Pleven, Plovdiv and Ruse; he subsequently occupied guest positions across Europe as well as in Cuba and Japan. His repertory embraces all eras with an emphasis on 20th-century works; his enthusiasm for the work of Gershwin made him one of the most outstanding interpreters and propagandists of his music in Bulgaria.
