- Magdalena Manolova
(b Burgas, March 18, 1930). Bulgarian composer and pianist. After graduating in 1953 from the Sofia State Academy of Music, where she was a pupil of Dimitar Nenov, she worked as conductor of the chorus at Radio Sofia. In 1986 she became lecturer in interpretation in the vocal department of the Sofia State Academy of Music and since 1993 has taught chamber music at the ‘Open Society’ Foundation. Her reputation as a pianist extends beyond Bulgaria to the rest of Europe. Baeva’s compositions, distinguished by their melodic richness and clear formal structure, consist mostly of chamber, instrumental and vocal music.
