[McCutcheon, Minnie Perkins]
(b Chicago, June 30, 1941). American composer, singer and actress. She studied music in Chicago and at the University of Illinois. In 1962, her senior year, she left Illinois to sing in a Broadway musical, after which she performed as an actress and singer on and off Broadway, in regional theatre and in television dramas. As a composer of musicals she had her first major success with Don’t Bother me, I Can’t Cope (1972), produced on Broadway in collaboration with Vinette Carroll; the work, in which Grant also performed, received the Outer Circle Critics Best Musical award. She has composed for other musicals, including The Prodigal Sister (1974), Your Arm’s too Short to Box with God (1976), The Ups and Downs of Theophilus Maitland (1977), Alice (1978), The Cradle will Rock (1978), It’s so Nice to be Civilized...
