(b New York, Sept 28, 1956). She attended Oberlin College and the City College of New York (MA in composition 1980). She has received commissions from a number of organizations, including the New York State Council on the Arts and the 92nd Street Y Chorale, and has been awarded grants from Meet the Composer (1983–92) and a fellowship from the Tuch Foundation (1978–80). She is co-founder of the contemporary music ensemble Musicians’ Accord (founded 1980) and from 1988 to 1992 was artistic director of Town Hall, New York. In 1992–3 she was a visiting lecturer at the National Academy of Music in Winneba, Ghana. Kaminsky’s compositions consist mainly of intimate chamber works that are characterized by luminous textures and an understated sensuality.
