(b Agematsu, Nagano, Sept 16, 1945). Japanese composer . She received an advanced degree from Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music (1971), where she studied with Tomojirō Ikenouchi, Makoto Moroi and Akio Yashiro. From 1976 to 1978 she continued composition studies with Andrew Imbrie as a graduate student at the University of California, Berkeley. She has been a leader in the Federation of Women Composers in Japan. Konishi’s output includes works written for both Japanese and western instruments. In her 1982 piece for alto flute and harp, Misty Poem, longer lines often emerge from short motifs or even single inflected pitches.
