Krzanowska, Grażynalocked

  • Barbara Zwolska-Stęszeweska

(b Legnica, March 1, 1952). Polish composer . She graduated with distinction from the composition class of Tadeusz Natanson at the State High School of Music in Wrocław (1976) and became a teacher at the music school in Bielsko-Biała. She has received the Young Composers award of the Polish Composers’ Union (1978) and prizes at the Okanogan Music Festival in Canada (1983), the Poznań Spring Music Festival (1986), and in the Karol Szymanowski Competition (1988) and the GEDOK competition in Mannheim (1989). In her music Krzanowska draws freely on traditional techniques and classical forms, mixing aleatory features and note clusters with clear tonal references. Her use of chamber sonorities enables her, even in her orchestral music, to create moments of great intimacy and subtlety.
