(b Ebbw Vale, Feb 21, 1935). Welsh composer. She read modern languages at Cambridge (MA 1957) and studied the piano at the Royal Northern College of Music, 1964–5. In 1975 she was awarded a Welsh Arts Council Composers’ Bursary after gaining the MMus from the University of Wales. She continued her studies with Elisabeth Lutyens, Anthony Payne and later Franco Donatoni (1977–8). In 1980 she co-founded the self-publishing company Primavera with Julia Usher. She has a particular interest in composing for dance and has written a considerable amount of piano music, including the sonata Storm Tide (1986), as well as chamber and vocal music.
