(b Santiago, July 31, 1879; d Santiago, Jan 30, 1962). Chilean composer and pianist . She began her music studies in Chile under Bindo Paoli, continuing them in 1926 with Konrad Ansorge and Hans Mersmann in Berlin. Most of her works were composed, published and first performed in Europe, but in 1934 her Piano Concerto (1933) was performed in both Chile and Berlin. In 1936 her Mass for unaccompanied voices won second prize in the International Religious Music Competition in Frankfurt. Her style reflects the interests of her time, in particular expressionism and neo-classicism. In addition to her two Kleine Orchesterstücke (1935) she wrote many chamber works including two string quartets (1940, 1942) and Visiones chilenas for string quartet with percussion.
