(b Milwaukee, Sept 4, 1934). Australian composer of American origin. She studied at DePaul University, Chicago, and the University of Michigan (MMus); her principal teachers were Leon Stein, Leslie Bassett and Ross Lee Finney. She taught in Minnesota and Wisconsin before going to Australia in 1974; she married the architect Kenneth White and became a permanent resident in Australia. She has been particularly prominent in lobbying for opportunities for women composers. Her major work is the Triple Concerto (1990), composed for the Queensland SO, but she has also composed chamber, keyboard, choral and educational works.
