(b Manchester, March 5, 1936). English string teacher and composer . After study at the RCM, she played the violin in several London orchestras during the 1960s and early 70s, and taught. In 1976 she studied in the USA with Paul Rolland, whose methods influenced her teaching and encouraged her to continue composing graded music suitable for string groups of all sizes (Right from the Start and Tetratunes for beginners) and ultimately imaginatively crafted works for different combinations of instruments (including Two in One, Together from the Start, Quartet Club and Tunes for my String Orchestra). Both her music and her pedagogical work, Beginners Please (London, 1987, 2/1993), which appeared after a television series about her work with children of ethnic minorities in the East End of London, are published by Boosey & Hawkes.
