Swepstone, Edithlocked

  • Lewis Foreman

(fl 1885–1930). English composer and teacher. Little about her is known. She studied at the GSM and was lecturing on music at the City of London School in 1895. Of the works by various women composers performed by Sir Dan Godfrey with the Bournemouth Municipal Orchestra during the first quarter of the 20th century, the largest number by any one composer were by her, but the music has not been located. Between 1899 and 1933, 14 orchestral works by her were given a total of 24 performances. There is only record of two having been performed elsewhere: a movement from the Symphony in G minor, first heard at Leyton in March 1887, and Les ténèbres at Queen's Hall in February 1897.
